About Hartzell Media
Pet Portraits Business
After acquiring my first Nikon camera while serving aboard a nuclear submarine in the United States Navy, I had
acquired a taste for photography. As a licensed veterinarian practicing for thirty years in California, I have
witnessed incredible bonds between people and their companions. Always fascinated by the ability of photography to
capture the "present moment" for our use in the future and kindling an opportunity to look into the past, I
wondered if I could combine photography and the essence of our bond to our pets.
Hartzell Media Pet
Portraits
aim is to make this a reality for others.
About Hartzell Media
With the advances in digital photography, macro-lens and software
that allows for intense enhancement and extraction of images, we
have been given the exciting opportunity to preserve  projections of
our friends' spirits .
The first attempt at this technique, was started in 2006 as a Mother's
Day gift to my wife, Cindy. The
Horses in Sunset on our home page was
my initial effort. Over the next several years, I was distracted while I
worked on the rough draft of my upcoming novel,
When Dogs
Dance with Dinosaurs
. Only recently have I returned to creating
images that combine our friends with background/foregrounds that
project their essence.

My hope is these efforts will provide others the fulfillment they seek
in knowing our existence is to share our world in a harmonious
manner with other beings. As I create these images I feel a sense of
connection existing beyond just being human and hopefully can
empower others to embrace the other inhabitants on our planet.

Utilizing my Cannon Digital cameras I seek those aspects of nature
that can be incorporated into making these images unique and special.
Recent exposure to High Dynamic Range Image photography has
heightened the spectacular nature of these creations.

The recent return of our son, Chase, from the military has provided a
rare opportunity for the two of us working together to create pet
portrait images that you can enjoy. There's nothing like using the
excuse of having to capture background images to hop aboard our
motorcycles and ride out to get some photographs for future use in our
labs.
